Kelly Cup Coming to Florida
March 7, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
Estero, FL - The ECHL's ultimate prize, the Kelly Cup, will make an appearance at Germain Arena for Florida's game on Saturday, March 12, the league has announced. The Kelly Cup, currently on its second-annual tour around the league, will visit a total of 12 ECHL cities. The Cup will be on display for Everblades fans to view throughout the March 12 game vs. Mississippi.
The 51-day tour began on February 18 and runs through April 9. The Kelly Cup Tour offers fans of the ECHL the opportunity to view the coveted trophy, which was first awarded to the league champions in 1997. Accompanying the Kelly Cup on the tour is a full-color display that highlights the intensity and excitement of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Kelly Cup is named in recognition of Patrick J. Kelly, who was one of the founding fathers of the ECHL in 1988-89. Kelly served as the commissioner for the first eight seasons and was named Commissioner Emeritus in 1996, a title he continues to hold.
The 2005 Kelly Cup Tour will see the championship cup travel a total of 7,112 miles over the 51 days. The cup will see both coasts from Bakersfield to Charleston, SC.
The Florida Everblades return to action on Friday, March 11 when they travel to Mississippi to take on the Sea Wolves at 8:35 p.m. eastern.
