Tuesday, FRESNO 5 vs. Condors 4, OT
Neither team could hold on to the lead in this see saw battle, with the Falcons tying the game at 4- 4 in the final minute of regulation. David Brisson scored the game-winner for the Falcons in overtime after Fresno surmounted three one-goal deficits during the first three periods. Jason Wolfe stopped 31 shots in the overtime loss and Mathieu Brunelle registered 1g-1a in his first game with the Condors.
Wednesday, CONDORS 4 vs. San Diego 1; attn: 4,184
Four different Condors scored goals and Yutaka Fukufuji came within 5.6 seconds to recording his fourth shutout of the season in a 4-1 triumph over the Gulls in the season series finale. Former Gulls Ashlee Langdone started the scoring in the first period, and Mathieu Brunelle, Dennis Shiryaev and Ryan Gills also tallied for the Condors. Bakersfield won the season series with a 6-2-1 record.
Friday, Condors 7 vs. VICTORIA 3
Mathieu Brunelle notched the third Condors hat trick of the season and Connor James set up three goals in his return from the American Hockey League in a 7-3 trouncing of the Salmon Kings. The Condors had put up 40 shots and built a 6-2 lead through two periods of play. Five different Condors scored in the effort and 12 registered at least one point.
Saturday, Condors 4 vs. VICTORIA 1
Victoria's 1-0 lead entering the third period was erased by two Condors goals in the span of 52 seconds during the final frame and eventually led to a 4-1 Condors win in the season series. Mathieu Brunelle scored a goal for the fourth straight game, while Paul Rosebush, Brett Lutes and Connor James also lit the lamp for the visiting Condors.
Where we stand
The Condors 3-0-1 record on the week boosted them to 34-15-9 on the season, good for second place with 77 points in the standings. They trail Alaska by two points, lead third place Long Beach by one and fourth place Fresno by six. Bakersfield has 14 games remaining in the regular season.
Win 10 to Win 10
Couldn't you go for a nice big stack of cash right now? If the Bakersfield Condors win their final 10 home games (final nine in the regular season and their first home playoff game), then one season ticket holder will win $10,000. Pro-rated season tickets are available, but fans must sign up before this Friday's game to be eligible. The March 11th match represents the first of the 10 final home games in the contest. All current and new season ticket holders will be entered in the drawing.
What's up this week
The Condors have three games in three days this weekend, starting with the Alaska Aces on Friday night at the Rabobank Arena. That night the ZOOperstars return to Bakersfield, featuring the likes of Shaquille O'Seal, Snail Earnhardt, Jr. and LeBronco James, sponsored by Bright House Networks and 101.5 KGFM.
The Condors start up a two-game set with the Fresno Falcons on Saturday night at the Save Mart Center. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Sunday's match is a 5:00 p.m. start. It's the final trip to Fresno for the Condors, who have three overtime/shootout losses at the Save Mart Center this season. News from the Nest
· Mathieu Brunelle finished the week with 6g- 1a-7pts in four games. He was acquired from the Dayton Bombers on Monday in exchange for LW Todd Alexander. It's the second four-game goal scoring streak for the Condors this season (Brad Mehalko).
· The Condors wrapped up two season series this week: San Diego (6-2-1) and Victoria (6-2-0). It's just the second time in team history that the Condors have claimed their season series with the Gulls, but both occasions have come in the last three campaigns.
· Saturday's four-goal third period matched the team's single period high this season, accomplished on two occasions.
· C Kevin St. Jacques, the team's leading point getter, will return to the lineup this weekend. He missed the last two games and has been absent for six of the last 10 contests.
· This Friday's game against Alaska is expected to feature a crowd in excess of 7,000 fans. It will be the sixth occasion this season that the Condors have drawn over 7,000, including three games over 8,000 already in the books. Bakersfield ranks fifth in the ECHL in average attendance at 5,204.
· The Condors best win total in history is 41, set during the final season of the West Coast Hockey League. After that, the next highest win total is 34, established in 1999-00. One more win for the Condors will officially clinch the second-best record in team history.
