Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (19-24-13; 51 PTS; 7th North div.) went 0-3-1 last week as they suffered a pair of losses against Reading, a loss at Wheeling on Friday and an overtime loss Saturday afternoon at Atlantic City. This week the Chiefs will play three games, all at home, beginning Friday night versus Atlantic City. Saturday they take on the Wheeling Nailers and Sunday afternoon the Toledo Storm. The Chiefs remain in seventh place in the North division, trailing sixth place Peoria by twelve points.

Game #53 (3/1/05) READING 5 - Johnstown 1 Cavanagh Goal

The Johnstown Chiefs surrendered three power play and one shorthanded goal to the Reading Royals Tuesday night, as the they fell 5-1. Chad Cavanagh scored the lone Johnstown goal. David Cann allowed all five goals and made 28 saves before being relieved by Brian Gratz.

Game #54 (3/4/05) WHEELING 3 - Johnstown 2 Tallari Goal, Assist

Wheeling's Brendon Hodge scored with 10:00 left in regulation to lift the Nailers to a 3-2 win over the Chiefs Friday night at Westbanco Arena. Joe Tallari had a goal and an assist for the Chiefs. David Bowman also scored for the Chiefs. Chiefs goaltender David Cann made 23 saves.

Game #55 (3/5/05) ATLANTIC CITY 5 - Johnstown 4 (OT) Desrochers Goal, Two Assists

Saturday afternoon the Chiefs dropped a heartbreaker as they lost 5-4, in overtime at Atlantic City. Boardwalk Bullies defenseman Brian Fahey scored the game winning goal 2:13 into the extra frame. Brian Collins scored his first goal in a Johnstown uniform, while David Bowman, Jean Desrochers and Joe Tallari also scored for the Chiefs. Johnstown net minder David Cann made 32 saves in the contest as the Chiefs out shot the Boardwalk Bullies 49-37.

Game #56 (3/6/05) Reading 4 - JOHNSTOWN 1 Leinweber First Goal of Season

The Johnstown Chiefs extended their winless streak (0-6-2) to eight games, as they fell at home, Sunday afternoon, 4-1 to the Reading Royals. The Chiefs jumped on the board in the second period as Chris Leinweber scored his first goal of the season at 2:39. Dan Welch had a pair of goals for the Royals, while Paul Cabana and Jon Francisco also scored. Chiefs goaltender David Cann made 17 saves in the contest, while Royals net minder Barry Brust made 18 saves.

Friday night, the Chiefs begin their four game home stand when they host the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (31-18-7, 69 PTS; 3rd North div.)The Chiefs are 2-2-2 against the Boardwalk Bullies this season and 10-10-4 all-time. The Boardwalk Bullies are 6-3-1 in their last ten games.
PROMO: The first 3,000 people through the gate will receive a commemorative Hanson Brothers T-shirt, courtesy of Somerset Trust Bank.

Saturday night, the Chiefs host the Wheeling Nailers (33-19-4, 70 PTS; 2nd North div.) for the sixth time this season. The Chiefs are 1-4-0 against the Nailers this season and 50-49-12 all-time. The Nailers are 5-3-2 in their last ten games.
PROMO: The Hanson Brothers return to Johnstown. Along with their usual antics, the Hansons will be signing autographs and available for photos.......Following the game, there will be a meet and greet with the Hanson Brothers at the Parrott Bay Café in Cambria City from 10pm to midnight........Miss Pennsylvania Victoria Bechtold will be signing the National Anthem.......Following the game, the Chiefs will hold an auction of their game worn third (red) jerseys........The Greater Johnstown Jaycees will be holding their monthly food drive. All fans are encouraged to bring a can or non perishable food item to the game for collection the lobby of the arena.

The Chiefs close out the busy weekend Sunday afternoon when the Toledo Storm come to the War Memorial for the final time this season. The Chiefs are 2-5-0 against the Storm this season. The Storm have lost three straight games.
PROMO: The final Heluva Good Quality Foods kids Sunday of the season. All children's tickets (12 and under) are just $1. Following the game there will be a "Skate with the Chiefs," and autograph session with the entire team.

- The Chiefs are winless in eight straight games (0-6-2).

- Friday night at home vs. Wheeling, Dmitri Tarabrin will play in his 350th game in a Chiefs uniform.

- Over the weekend, Brent Bilodeau passed Darren Serviatus and Darren Schwartz on the Chiefs all-time PIM list. Bilodeau is now 8th all-time (527).
