Aces rally past Ice Dogs 6-3

Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Ryan Moren led another spirited Alaska rally from a 3-0 deficit with a goal and three assists as the Aces regained sole possession of first place in the West Division and the National Conference with a 6-3 victory over Long Beach before a sell-out throng of 6,313 Sunday at Sullivan Arena.

One night after rallying to salvage a point in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Ice Dogs, who had led 3-0 and 4-2 with less than five minutes to play, the Aces again got off to a terrible start, falling behind 13 seconds into the game on a goal by Phil Lewandowski. Bill Lindsay, who had a hat trick the night before as well as the game-winner in the shootout, scored three minutes later for a two-goal lead, and Michael Lambert extended the margin to 3-0 with 2:21 left in the first period.

Moren started the comeback at the 6:53 mark of the second period by zipping a wrist shot by Olivier Michaud to bring Alaska within 3-1. Joe Talbot flicked in a rebound of a Moren shot 38 seconds later, and B.J. Young took a pass from Talbot off the dasher and flipped home a backhander to the short side against Michaud to tie the game at 10:52. Young set up Chris Heisten for a wrister from the left circle that beat Michaud top shelf with 2:56 left in the middle frame to give the Aces the lead for good at 4-3.

Charles Linglet fed an open Chris Minard in the slot for a virtual tap-in 4:04 into the third period, Minard's first goal in five games and league-leading 38th of the year. Heisten sealed the win and kept Alaska unbeaten in 13 games (10-0-3) with an empty-netter at 18:43 of the final period, his second goal of the night and 13th of the year. Meanwhile, Long Beach mustered little offense against Peter Aubry, who posted 20 saves in collecting his 22nd victory. The Ice Dogs were out-shot 28-10 over the last two periods.

The Aces (36-15-7 overall) have not been beaten in regulation since February 5 and have dropped just three of their last 31 games. Alaska leads the West Division by two points over Bakersfield and three over Long Beach heading into the opener of a six-game road trip Friday, March 11, at Bakersfield's Centennial Garden, with the face-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. AST on KFQD. The Aces play the Ice Dogs in Long Beach Saturday at 6:00 p.m. AST and head to San Diego for their final regular season meeting with the Gulls Sunday at 4:00 p.m. AST.

The games against Bakersfield and San Diego will be made available via video webcast on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. All Alaska games are broadcast live on KFQD, with coverage beginning 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. For information on purchasing 2005-06 season tickets, please call 258-ACES.
