Stanek Ties Record with 12 Strikeouts in BG's 4-2 Loss

Eastlake, Ohio - Ryne Stanek tied the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) record for most strikeouts in a game with 12, but it was not enough to defeat the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) who were victorious on Wednesday night, 4-2.

Stanek (3-4) pitched well enough to win, but was unfortunately handed the loss. He joins Jaime Schultz in having struck out 12 in a game this year, while Braulio Lara and current Tampa Bay Ray Matt Moore have also accomplished the feat. Stanek issued just free pass and six hits, but the Captains plated four runs off the right-hander.

Lake County went in front in the bottom of the third. Richard Stock tripled on a fly ball to right field, and he scored when Jorge Martinez followed with a single to right field.

The Hot Rods leveled the game in the top of the fourth. Juniel Querecuto led off with a single through the left side, and moved to second when Johnny Field was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Querecuto scored when Armando Araiza grounded out. The run tied the game at one.

The Captains re-took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Torsten Boss drew a lead-off walk, and advanced to second on a single by Dorssys Paulino. The bases were loaded after a Stock base-hit, and Martinez then grounded into a double play to plate Boss. The frame was capped when Ivan Castillo tripled to the left-center field gap to score Paulino.

Bowling Green trimmed a run off the deficit in the sixth, as Darryl George reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. However, the Captains would get that run back when Clint Frazier led off the sixth inning with his sixth home run of the season. The homer barely cleared the wall in right field, and gave the game its final margin of 4-2.

Mitch Brown (2-6) was phenomenal as well, and he earned the win after allowing just two runs (one earned) in six innings.

Colton Reavis fanned four batters in two scoreless innings of relief, and his effort helped give the Hot Rods' pitching staff a new season-high with 16 strikeouts in a game.

The Hot Rods will play for the series victory on Thursday night in the finale of their three-game series in Lake County. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, and fans can follow the action on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket beginning at 5:45 p.m. CT with the Pepsi Pre-Game Show. The Hot Rods return home on Friday, and the July 4 celebration is highlighted by a double-fireworks show following the game.
