Big Innings Lift Bees over LumberKings

(Burlington-IA)- Two big innings helped lifted the Burlington Bees' over the Clinton LumberKings 7-5 in game one of a three game series at Community Field, on Tuesday night.

Clinton started the scoring in the first inning, scoring two runs off Bees' starter Clint Sharp thanks to a Justin Seager RBI single and a run scoring fielder's choice grounded into by Isaiah Yates.

The Bees erased the deficit with one swing of the bat, when Ryan Dalton crushed a three run homer to left, putting the Bees on top 3-2 in the fourth inning.

Clinton tied the game in the fifth thanks to a Justin Seager double, scoring Jack Reinheimer, knotting the game at three.

Nine hitters came to the plate for the Bees in the sixth inning. With runners at second and third, the LumberKings intentionally walked Ryan Dalton, loading the bases for Ismael Dionicio with one out. Dionicio grounded a single off the end of the glove of third baseman Martin Peguero, giving the Bees a 4-3 lead. The next hitter, Erick Salcedo, cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line, extending the Bees' lead to 7-3.

Isaiah Yates pulled the LumberKings to within a run with a double in the seventh inning, scoring Justin Seager, cutting the Bees' lead to 7-4.

Clinton added a run in the ninth but the Bees held on winning their third straight game, with a 7-5 win.

Bees' starter Clint Sharp (5-4), allowed just three runs in six innings of work, earning the win. LumberKings. Tommy Burns (0-4) was charged with the loss. Ben Carlson (7) picked up the save.

The Burlington Bees (45-36) continue a three game series with the Clinton LumberKings (34-45), on Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
