GENEVA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs gave up one big inning Tuesday night and it cost them in a 6-1 loss to the Kane County Cougars. The loss drops the Chiefs to 8-4 on the second half and 45-36 on the season with two games left in the series.

After the Chiefs left a runner in scoring position in the first and lost a baserunner in the second, the hosts jumped on Arturo Reyes in the third. Reyes, who had retired the first six Cougars batters, allowed singles to Carlos Penalver and Shawon Dunston to start the inning. With runners on the corners, Dunston stole second and Penalver scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead. Jacob Hannemann walked and Ben Carhart fouled off five two-strike pitches before launching a three-run homer to left. With two down, former Chiefs Yasiel Balaguert and Jacob Rogers both singled and scored on a double by Jeimer Candelario. Zach Loraine took over for Reyes and got out of the inning with the Chiefs down 6-0.

Neither team got a runner past second base until the ninth inning. With one down, Justin Ringo doubled to left and moved to third as Carson Kelly singled. Newcomer Robelys Reyes got the Chiefs on the board as he beat out a double play ball with Ringo scoring and Kelly out at second. Luis Perez flew out to deep center to end the game with the Chiefs falling 6-1.

Loraine threw a career-high 3 1/3 shutout innings allowing one hit while walking one and striking out one. Chris Perry struck out four over two shutout innings of work while walking one.
