Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Dayton, OH - It was a different city but the same story for the TinCaps for the fourth straight night. Tuesday at Fifth Third Field Fort Wayne lost, 7-0, to the Dayton Dragons, as the offense collected just five hits against a trio of Dragons pitchers.
Dan Langfield, who had faced the TinCaps Thursday at Parkview Field and not allowed a hit, scattered four hits over 4 2/3 innings in his second start of the year. Working on a 75-pitch limit, he struck out five and walked one. Radhames Quezada (1-0) followed Langfield and was equally effective, fanning four and walking one in 2 1/3 innings. Nolan Becker went the final two innings with three runners reaching on his watch.
Fort Wayne (5-7, 35-46) had a few good opportunities early to score, getting back-to-back singles from Rey Bruguera and Dustin Peterson, who had three of the team's six hits, in the first inning, and a two-out triple from Henry Charles in the second, but neither situation yielded the production the team has lacked in its last two games against Dayton. When the TinCaps last faced Dayton (4-8, 40-40) on June 25, the Dragons blanked the TinCaps, 5-0, allowing only four hits.
After losing three of four against the first half's last-place finisher, Lake County, the Dragons opened this series with a bang. All nine batters came to the plate in the first against Kyle Lloyd (2-3), and four of them scored. Dayton added two more in the second and a final, albeit unearned for Lloyd, run in the fourth, as well. Lloyd gave up a career high 10 hits, seven runs, and six earned runs. Despite his turbulent first two innings, the righthander looked more like his usual self in his final three innings, facing three, five, and four batters, respectively. He fanned six and walked one.
Josh Richardson worked three scoreless innings to provide relief to a bullpen that had worked 20 1/3 innings combined in the prior four-game series against South Bend. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 7,969, marking the 1,021st consecutive sellout at Fifth Third Field.
Game two of the three-game series is set for Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The scheduled starters are Ronald Herrera for Fort Wayne and Nick Travieso for Dayton. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TinCaps.com.
