Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - As part of this evening's Military Appreciation Night, the Kane County Cougars have planned a variety of special events to recognize active and retired military personnel. Game time is at 6:30 p.m. and gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Media are encouraged to attend this evening's game between the Cougars and Peoria Chiefs.
- The Cougars, with the help of the Illinois Army National Guard, will be permanently dedicating a box seat during this evening's game to recognize the sacrifices of those who have served but have never returned. The seat, effective tonight, will be a tribute seat that will never be sat in, but never be empty, at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. The seat is located on the first base side in section 106. Media who are interested in taking photos or video of this recognition are asked to arrive at Guest Services (located on the ballpark concourse behind section 112) at 6:45 p.m.
- The Cougars are offering complimentary tickets for tonight's game to all retired and active duty military personnel.
- Cougars players will wear commemorative patriotic jerseys and caps during tonight's game.
- Several military vehicles will be on display inside the ballpark, courtesy of Cantigny Park.
- The first 1,500 fans age 21 and older will receive a patriotic Cougars t-shirt courtesy of Miller Lite. The first 1,500 children age 14 and under will receive a patriotic Cougars foam claw, courtesy of Fifth Third Bank.
- Cougars and Chiefs players along with military personnel will help unfurl and hold a large American flag on the field during the National Anthem.
- The Cougars are welcoming representatives from the Illinois AMVETS organization to be recognized before the game. The Cougars partnered with Illinois AMVETS during the month of June and the Cougars will be donating a portion of the in-game charity proceeds from June to this organization.
- Representatives from Rolling Thunder Illinois, the Illinois Army National Guard, Illinois AMVETS organization and Operation Support Our Troops will be in attendance this evening.
- Performance artist Elliott From will paint a patriotic Cougars-themed piece of art following the game. The unique painting will be up for auction as fans can bid on the artwork, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
- The evening will culminate in a patriotic-themed fireworks show following the game.
