Dragons Score Early, Win 7-0 on Tuesday

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons built a 6-0 lead over the first two innings and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field. Three Dragons pitchers combined on a six-hitter as the Dragons won their second game in the last three.

The first four batters in the Dragons half of the first inning all delivered hits to send the Dragons off to an early lead. Jamodrick McGruder and Carlton Daal singled before Phillip Ervin lined a double off the left field fence to bring in McGruder and make it 1-0. Tanner Rahier's infield hit scored Daal, and Daniel Pigott followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Ervin. Two batters later, Jonathan Reynoso blooped a double to shallow center field to drive in Rahier and make it 4-0.

In the second, Rahier delivered a two-run single to center field after a walk to McGruder and a single by Daal to make it 6-0. The Dragons scored again in the fourth when McGruder doubled and eventually came around on an error to put the Dragons ahead 7-0.

Dragons starting pitcher Dan Langfield worked into the fifth inning before reaching his pitch limit. Over four and two-thirds, Langfield allowed four hits and no runs with one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 74 pitches as he continues a return from shoulder surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2013 season.

Dayton reliever Radhames Quezada (1-0) replaced Langfield and worked two and one-third innings, allowing no hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win. Nolan Becker pitched the final two innings, surrendering two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The Dragons collected 12 hits. McGruder, Daal, Rahier, and Ronald Bueno each had two. McGruder scored three runs. It was the third straight two-hit game for Daal, who raised his batting average to .302.

The Dragons (4-8) host Fort Wayne (5-7) again on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Nick Travieso (6-4, 3.74) will start for the Dragons against Fort Wayne's Ronald Herrera (5-4, 3.36).

Notes: The Dragons notched their eighth shutout win of the season. They have been shutout five times...Rahier is batting .396 in the second half (12 games)...Over Langfield's last six outings on the mound, he has allowed just two runs (one earned) in 19.2 innings, striking out 27...Becker has not allowed an earned run over his last nine relief appearances covering 9.2 innings...Infielder Sammy Diaz was activated from the disabled list and promoted to Bakersfield.
