Dayton, Ohio-Nick Travieso fired six shutout innings and Carlton Daal enjoyed his fourth straight multi-hit game to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 7-2 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Wednesday night. A crowd of 7,843 saw the game at Fifth Third Field.
The Dragons have won the first two games of the series and will go for the sweep on Thursday. The Dragons have outscored the TinCaps 14-2 in the first two games of the set.
Travieso (7-4) earned the win. He worked six innings and allowed just three hits and no runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He left the game with a 2-0 lead.
Scott Brattvet tossed the final two innings to earn his 10th save. Brattvet allowed two runs in the eighth as Fort Wayne pulled to within one at 3-2, and the TinCaps had runners at first and second with one out. But Brattvet got a big double play grounder to end the inning and hold the lead.
The Dragons scored in the first inning for the second straight night to take an early lead. Tanner Rahier singled in Daal from second base with two outs to make it 1-0. In the second, the Dragons scored again when Jose Ortiz tripled with one out and scored on Jonathan Reynoso's sacrifice fly.
It was still 2-0 until the seventh when Reynoso singled with two outs and scored from first on Ronald Bueno's double down the right field line to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead going to the eighth.
Fort Wayne's Jake Bauers delivered a two-run single in the top of the eighth, but Brattvet worked out of the jam to hold the lead. The Dragons scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to close out the scoring, taking advantage of two errors along with a run-scoring single by Daniel Pigott and a two-run double by Ortiz to jump ahead 7-2.
The Dragons collected 12 hits. Daal, Ortiz, and Bueno each had two. Rahier extended his hitting streak to nine straight games.
