
Lugnuts turn tables in easy 9-3 win

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - A day after they were victimized in a 12-4 rout, the Lansing Lugnuts (7-6, 39-43) knocked 16 hits and rolled to a 9-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (8-5, 49-34) on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.
Lansing went 8-for-19 with runners in scoring position with six different players driving in runs.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Lugnuts responded with five unanswered runs to take a 5-1 lead through five.
Second baseman Jason Leblebjian led the offensive attack, going 3-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and scored a run. Third baseman Mitch Nay went 2-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in a pair.
Right fielder Derrick Loveless also had three hits, including a double, while scoring twice and driving in a run.
Reliever Alonzo Gonzalez (Win, 1-0) earned his first decision of the season, allowing one run in three innings on four hits with five strikeouts. Roberto Espinosa allowed one hit in two scoreless relief innings.
The Lugnuts scored five runs against West Michigan starter Chad Green (Loss, 2-3) on eight hits and with walks and two strikeouts.
Lansing pitchers held the Whitecaps to 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, stranding 10 runners on base.
Lansing and West Michigan play the rubber match of the three-game series on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Right-hander Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-2, 3.33) starts on the mound, with Jonathan Crawford (4-2, 2.60) on the mound for West Michigan.
