Homers and Hits Lead to Hot Rods 10-2 Win

Eastlake, Ohio - Juniel Querecuto set the tone early with a lead-off home run, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) rolled to a 10-2 victory over the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) on Tuesday night. Bowling Green's offense collected 15 hits and blasted three home runs.

Querecuto sent the second pitch of the game onto the left-field lawn. It was Querecuto's second home run of his professional career, it took 1,065 at-bats to hit his first, but just 19 to record his second. James Harris followed with a home run of his own as his third of the year sailed over the right-center field wall.

Leading 3-0, the Hot Rods added two more runs in the third. Armando Araiza led off with an infield single, and Pat Blair's hit moved him to third base. Alexander Simon singled to drive home Araiza, and then Sean Smedley posted his first professional hit with a single through the right side to drive home Blair. Bowling Green led 5-0 after three innings of play.

A single by Simon and ground-rule double by Querecuto swelled the lead to 7-0 in the fifth, and after Torsten Boss put the Captains on the board with a solo home run, Bowling Green put the game out of reach. Johnny Field led off with top of the sixth with a walk, and Araiza hammered a home run over the left-field bleachers to stretch the lead to 9-1. Simon would triple home Blair later in the frame for Bowling Green's final run.

The offensive outburst was headlined by Simon who tied a Hot Rods season-high with four hits. He fell a home run short of the cycle, while Querecuto was just a triple shy of the cycle himself. Querecuto and Blair each registered three-hit nights in the 10-2 victory that sent Bowling Green's second-half record to 4-8.

Jake Faria (4-4) worked five innings and allowed just one run to earn the victory. Josh Kimborowicz and Brad Schreiber finished off the game for the Hot Rods.

Luis Lugo (5-7) took the loss after he allowed seven runs and 12 hits.

The Hot Rods will try and secure the series victory on Wednesday night.
