Sound Tigers Home for the Holidays

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Lowell Devils 6-4 on Saturday and fell 3-1 to the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday, both at the Arena at Harbor Yard, in their only games, this past week.

The week ahead:

After visiting Norfolk on Wednesday and traveling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, the Sound Tigers return to home ice to play the Manchester Monarchs, in their only visit to the Arena, on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m.

Home cooking

The Sound Tigers will be home for four games in the final week-plus of the calendar year. They host the Hershey Bears Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The 22nd Annual Polar Bear Tournament's Opening Ceremonies will be held that night, beginning at 6 p.m. Girls' hockey players from Connecticut and across the country and Canada will be honored. Connecticut's best rivalry is renewed when the Hartford Wolf Pack visits the Sound Tigers on Friday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. (Bingo Night). The Sound Tigers will host the Albany River Rats at 3 p.m. on New Year's Eve, an exciting way to kick off your New Year's celebration.

Dress as Santa, come for free

Saturday night, Dec. 23, is Santa Claus Night. All fans who dress as Santa will watch the game for free.

In the community

Teddy Bear Toss: The Sound Tigers held their annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday. Thousands of teddy bears and other stuffed animals were tossed as part of the yearly event to benefit children battling cancer. The Sound Tigers' players, coaches and staff, joined by AMR, delivered the stuffed animals to children at area hospitals on Monday.

Holiday Party: The Sound Tigers held the First Annual Department of Children and Families Holiday Party at the Arena on Saturday afternoon. Some 350 adoptive children and families were on hand to celebrate the holiday season.

The Gift of Hockey

The Gift of Hockey is an appropriate present for sports fans this holiday season. It includes four ticket vouchers for any Sound Tigers game, an autographed puck and a coupon good for 15 percent off merchandise at the Sound Tigers Team Shop. The Gift of Hockey costs $59.99 for end zone seating (behind the nets) and $89.99 for center ice seating. It's sure to be a well-remembered gift. Weekly update

In the standings: The Sound Tigers have a record of 12-10-1-3 and are in fifth place in the division, two points behind Albany.

Comeback kids: The Sound Tigers overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat Lowell 6-4 on Saturday. Trailing 3-1 to begin the second period, the Sound Tigers reeled off three goals in a span of 2:27 to take the lead. Lowell tied the game, but Steve Regier's goal to make it 5-4, late in the second, proved to be the game-winner.

Tricky Tambellini: Jeff Tambellini scored three goals in the win over the Devils, Bridgeport's first hat-trick of the campaign. Tambellini leads the team with 15 goals.

Between the pipes: Billy Thompson came off the bench to stop 25 of 26 shots to beat Lowell. Thompson then kicked aside 43 of 46 shots in Sunday's loss to the Admirals.

PK still on top: The Sound Tigers' penalty kill, at 90.7 percent, continues to lead the league. Sunday's lone goal, scored by Allan Rourke, came shorthanded.

Player of the week nominee

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers nominate left wing Jeff Tambellini for the CCM/Vector AHL Player of the Week award. Tambellini had a hat-trick in Saturday's come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Lowell Devils on Saturday night. Tambellini also added an assist for four points and was a plus-3 in the game.
