Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Senators (9-17-1-2, 21 pts.) were 0-2 last week, including a 7-5 loss to nemesis Norfolk on Friday night.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15th vs. NORFOLK (5-7 L):

The Senators buried a season-high four power-play markers against the Admirals. Troy Brouwer gave the Admirals the early 1-0 lead, as the winger gathered a loose puck and tapped it in from the left post. After a quiet 13:00 span Norfolk struck again, this time on the power play. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglein buried a one-timer into the top of the net, right over the top of goalie JEFF GLASS outstretched glove. The Senator responded with a power-play marker of their own, as leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA collected his 15th marker of the season. RYAN VESCE and CORY PECKER assisted on the goal. SERGE PAYER, who arrived back in Binghamton just hours before tonight's game following a stint with Ottawa, snapped a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle through the legs of Sebastien Caron to tie the game at 2 apiece. With Admirals holding a 5-2 advantage, winger CORY PECKER erased his thirteen game goal-scoring drought, as he snapped a wrist shot from the left post through the five hole to bring the Senators within two. Norfolk captain Craig MacDonald netted the game-winner at 4:02 of the last period, as the center faked left, then weaved right scooping a shot past KELLY GUARD. JOSH HENNESSY and ANDY HEDLUND both tallied to get the Senators within striking distance at 6-5, but Carl Corazzini ended the comeback attempt with an empty-netter at 19:48.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16th @ ROCHESTER (4-10 L):

Winger CORY PECKER buried a power-play marker at 4:47 of the opening stanza to give Binghamton their only lead of the night. The Americans closed out the first period with three markers, including a short-hander by Dylan Hunter to make it a 3-1 contest. Defenseman CHARLIE COOK netted his third goal of the season just: 47 seconds into the second period to get the Senators within one. Rochester scored three unanswered before the Senators found the back of the net again. RYAN VESCE tallied the Senators third goal of the night, an even-strength marker four minutes into the final period. PECKER followed with his second power-play marker of the night, making it a 6-4 contest. Rochester caught fire during the last ten minutes of the game, as they scored four goals in just over six minutes. Three of the four goals were on the power play, as the Americans won 10-4. The ten goals allowed were a franchise-high. Goalie had 25 saves in the losing effort.

THIS WEEK: The Senators play twice this week, one home game and one road contest. On Friday, Dec. 22, Binghamton heads down the Pennsylvania Turnpike to take on the Philadelphia Phantoms. On Saturday, Dec. 23, the Senators welcome Rochester to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

SCOUTING REPORT

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22nd @ PHILADELPHIA (7:05):

Phantom center Pete Zingoni collected a natural hat trick to lead Philadelphia to a 6-3 win on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Arena. Binghamton jumped out to an early 1-0 off JOSH HENNESSY'S sixth marker of the year. BOBBY ROBINS and JEFF HEEREMA assisted on the goal. Goalie JEFF GLASS turned away 14 shots in the opening stanza. Zingoni tallied his second marker on a breakaway, as he beat the Senators defense down the ice before going to the backhand and sneaking it by GLASS to make it 3-1. Zingoni completed the natural trick at 17:51. Darren Reid worked the puck free from behind the net, and Zingoni picked it up and wrapped it around the post to give the Phantoms a 4-1 lead. Mark Cullen added a late marker to give the Phantoms a 5-1 at the end of the second period. The Senators would not go quietly, as DANNY BOIS struck on the power play. Defenseman CHARLIE COOK rifled a slap shot off Munroe's chest and BOIS collected the rebound and snapped it past Scott Munroe to make it a 5-2 contest. The tally was the second of the season for BOIS, while ANDREW EBBETT extended his point streak (4+12=16) to nine games with a helper on the goal. GLASS had 39 saves on the night. Mark Cullen leads the Phantoms with 20 points (6+14=20), and five of his six goals came via the power play. Tony Voce is right behind with 17 points (5+12=17).

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 23rd vs. ROCHESTER (7:05):

The Senators have struggled against Rochester so far this season, dropping all four games to their neighboring AHL team. JEFF HEEREMA and CORY PECKER accounted for the Senators' goals that evening, while goaltender JEFF GLASS had 26 saves in the losing effort. In early October, Americans rookie goalie Adam Dennis had 40 saves to lead the Amerks over Binghamton 3-2. Rookie center ANDREW EBBETT collected his first two AHL points (1g,1a) in the loss. After Rochester took the early lead on a Janis Sprukts power-play goal, EBBETT found the back of the net at 10:19 of the first period off a pass from defenseman ANDY HEDLUND. Rochester held a 2-1 lead in the third, when right wing Drew Stafford scored his third marker of the season off a two-on-one breakaway at the 8:52 mark. Binghamton threatened late in the third when leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA netted his fourth goal of the season at 16:19 to bring the Senators within one of Rochester. EBBETT collected his second point of the night, assisting on the goal as did RYAN VESCE. Clarke MacArthur leads the Americans with 34 points (12+22=34), including six power-play markers.
