Admirals finish road trip with weekend sweep

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals went three-for-three to close out their six-game road trip this past weekend. On Friday, the reunited top scoring line of Troy Brouwer, Martin St. Pierre and Brandon Bochenski combined for ten points as the Admirals defeated the Binghamton Senators 7-5. The following evening, Norfolk scored on its first three shots and cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Springfield Falcons. On Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport, Bochenski scored twice and St. Pierre netted the game-winning goal in the third period to lead the Admirals past the Sound Tigers by a 3-1 score. In their first three games back with Norfolk since their seven-game stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, Bochenski and St. Pierre combined for seven goals and eight assists.

The Admirals return to Scope on Wednesday night for a rematch with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:15. Norfolk then has two very important East Division showdowns on Friday and Saturday. Hershey visits Norfolk on Friday night at 7:15 with the Admirals looking for revenge after three tough losses to the Bears two weeks ago. The Admirals then travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday looking for their first win against the Penguins in the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza since the 2003-04 season.

STANDINGS

At 19-6-4-1 (43 pts), Norfolk is tied for second place in the East Division with Hershey (18-3-3-4, 43 pts). Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-4-2-2, 44 pts) has a one-point lead over the Admirals and Bears. Albany (14-11-2-0, 30 pts) is fourth, Bridgeport (12-10-1-3, 28 pts) is fifth, and both Philadelphia (10-16-1-0) and Binghamton (9-17-1-2) have 21 points and are tied for sixth.

TEAM NOTEBOOK

- Brandon Bochenski looks to tie the franchise scoring streak record on Wednesday at Scope when he looks for points in his eleventh consecutive game.

o During his ten-game streak, Bochenski has 11 goals and 14 assists for 24 points.

o Seven of Bochenski's ten games during that stretch have been multi-point games - including a four-goal performance on November 25 versus the Philadelphia Phantoms and a four-assist game on November 18 versus the Binghamton Senators.

o The eleven game scoring streak record of was just established by Martin St. Pierre earlier this season after standing at ten games for five seasons. From October 28 versus Hartford to November 21 versus Manchester, St. Pierre had four goals and 16 assists for 20.

- Corey Crawford had a streak of 362 minutes and 38 seconds between five-on-five goals ended by Andy Delmore's late third period goal on Saturday in Springfield. Crawford leads the AHL with 15 wins.

- Since their return to the Admirals from a seven-game recall to the Chicago Blackhawks, Bochenski (3G, 5A) and St. Pierre (4G, 3A) have combined for 15 points in two games. Line mate Troy Brouwer chips in another five points (1G, 4A) since the reunion of the Admirals' top scoring line on Friday night in Binghamton.

- Troy Brouwer had a seven-game scoring streak (4G, 9A) end on Sunday in Bridgeport.

- Craig MacDonald had a six-game scoring streak (2G, 4A) end on Saturday in Springfield.

- Matt Keith, the third-leading goal scorer in Norfolk Admirals history (58 regular season goals over four seasons), scored his first goal of the season in his 14th game last night in Springfield.

TRANSACTIONS

- On Thursday, the Admirals returned D Mitch Maunu on loan to the Toledo Storm (ECHL).

- On Wednesday, the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) returned RW Brandon Bochenski and C Martin St. Pierre on loan to the Admirals.
