Worcester Sharks News Release
On the Docket...
12.22.06 - Worcester vs. Manchester - DCU Center
12.23.06 - Worcester vs. Lowell - DCU Center
A Quick Look Back
12.15.06 - Worcester 5 - Hartford 4 OT
Garrett Stafford's first game-winning goal of the season gathered two-points in the Atlantic Division standings for the Sharks as they upended Hartford 5-4 in overtime. The Sharks scored three consecutive power play goals to come-from-behind on the Wolf Pack and improve to 12-10-1-4 on the year, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process.
12.16.06 - Manchester 3 - Worcester 2
Back on home ice after an overtime victory at Hartford one night prior, the Worcester Sharks were unable to reverse their recent struggles at the DCU Center and fell to the rival Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night by a score of 3-2. Garret Stafford followed up on yesterday's game-winner with a power play goal and Mike Iggulden registered a point in his second consecutive game after returning from a head injury, but the Sharks fell to a record of 5-4-1-4 in games decided by a single goal and 12-11-1-4 overall.
New Face...
The Worcester Sharks made their first trade of the season on Thursday night. In an effort to become more defensive minded, the Sharks sent offensive defenseman Mathieu Biron to the Montreal Canadiens organization in exchange for defenseman Patrick Traverse. Traverse was originally signed by the San Jose organization back in July, but when he was sent down to Worcester, Montreal claimed the stay-at-home defenseman off waivers and sent him to Hamilton of the AHL. In Traverse's first game with Worcester, the 6'4", Montreal native recorded an assist on the tying goal against Hartford on Friday night.
Home Away From Home...
Worcester seems to be a tough place to play for the Sharks these days. On the road is a whole different story though. The Sharks are ranked seventh in the league when playing away from the DCU Center this season. Team Teal has compiled a record of 8-4-0-3 in 15 games played. The Sharks have also scored 52 of their 93 goals for while playing on unfamiliar ice.
Stafford Steps Up...
Sharks defenseman Garrett Stafford has been on an offensive tear recently. On Friday night, Stafford tallied the game-winner for the Sharks in overtime at the Hartford Civic Center to lift his team past the Wolf Pack. He also added an assist on the game-tying goal. Then on Saturday night, Stafford scored his fourth of the year with just under a minute left to play in the game to bring the Sharks to within one against Manchester. The University of New Hampshire graduate currently leads all Sharks defenseman with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 25 games played.
Heaps of Hats and Mittens...
On Sunday evening, the Worcester Sharks held their first annual "Hats and Mittens" Holiday Skate with the Sharks at the Buffone Arena on Lake Ave. in Worcester. The event was a huge success with all the proceeds benefiting Community Healthlink. The whole Worcester Sharks hockey team was on hand to skate, take photos with fans and sign autographs. The Worcester Sharks would like to thank all who participated in such a worthy cause.
FIREWORKS!!!
On Saturday, December 30, the Sharks will have a Fireworks display inside the DCU Center following a game against the Portland Pirates. The Sharks urge fans to attend the game and enjoy the post-game fireworks to ring in the New Year with a "bang!!" Saturday night means another Saturday Night Signing following the fireworks display.
