Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Apr. 10, 2011) - Mikko Koskinen made a season-high 46 saves and Tyler McNeely recorded a goal and two assists as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Albany Devils 4-3 in their final game of the 2010-11 regular season. The Sound Tigers conclude their 10th Annniversary Season with wins in four of their last five games to finish with a 30-39-4-7 record. Albany ends their year with a 32-42-1-5 record.
Quick passing put the Sound Tigers ahead 15:47 into the game. Joe Pereira's cross-ice pass entering the Devils zone found Justin DiBenedetto by the left circle. DiBenedetto faked a shot before sliding the puck to Rob Hisey who deflected it past Jeff Frazee for his 16th goal of the year to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead heading to the second period.
Chad Wiseman's power-play tally just 23 seconds into the second period evened the score at one, but McNeely answered at 4:54. Benn Olson broke his stick on a shot from the point, sending the puck slowly towards the slot. Tony Romano gathered the puck and found McNeely who beat Frazee to put the Sound Tigers back on top. Pierre-Luc Letourneau Leblond scored Albany's second power-play goal of the night after knocking the puck from mid-air past Koskinen at 6:52. However, Jeremy Colliton scored his own power-play goal just 1:56 later for his 18th goal of the season to put the Sound Tigers ahead 3-2. Bridgeport then completed successive 5-on-3 and 5-on-4 penalty kills, and as Matt Donovan's delay of game penalty ended McNeely found him coming out of the box on a breakaway. Donovan took a wide angle from the left circle towards the net, deked on the forehand and backhanded the puck past Frazee for his first professional goal to give the Sound Tigers a 4-2 lead headed to the third period.
Brad Mills cut the Devils deficit to one with an even-strength goal at 11:59 of the third period, but Koskinen came up big down the stretch when he had to. The Vantaa, Finland native stopped 17 of 18 shots in the final period and the Sound Tigers skated away with the 4-3 win to end their regular season.
Jeremy Colliton earned first-star honors with a goal this afternoon after being honored prior to today's game for becoming the Sound Tigers all-time leading scorer back on Mar. 25 in Portland with a four-assist performance. Colliton concludes the season with 18 goals and 27 assists and 110 career helpers which is tied with Rob Collins for the franchise mark. Colliton's strong finish includes 30 points over his last 22 games. Rhett Rakhshani earned AHL All-Star and All-Rookie honors this season and finishes the 2010-11 season as the Sound Tigers leader in goals (24), assists (38) and points (62).
