Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, will face-off against the Binghamton Senators in Round One of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs, Monarchs President Darren Abbott announced today. The post-season will begin on Thursday, April 14 when the Monarchs host the Senators in game one of the best-of-seven series at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
2011 Calder Cup playoff tickets for the first three rounds (up to 12 games) for the Monarchs will go on sale on Monday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena Box Office and online at www.manchestermonarchs.com. The Monarchs win over the Portland Pirates on Saturday, April 2 clinched them home-ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. This is the Monarchs ninth playoff appearance in their 10-year history. It came down to the final game of the regular season to determine the Monarchs first round opponent as Norfolk Admirals beat the Connecticut Whale 6-3 on Sunday night to take fourth place in the East Division and push the Senators to fifth place.
The playoffs feature the top four teams in each of the AHL's four divisions, with one exception: with the fifth place team in the East Division, Binghamton, finishing with more points than the fourth place team in the Atlantic Division, Worcester, the Senators cross over and compete in the Atlantic Division playoffs. Since Binghamton also has more points than the Whale, they will compete as the third place team in the Atlantic Division against the Monarchs and the Whale will drop down to fourth place.
