Oilers Assign Five To Oklahoma City

The Edmonton Oilers assigned forwards Chris Vande Velde, Teemu Hartikainen, Ryan O'Marra and Linus Omark as well as defenseman Jeff Petry to the Oklahoma City Barons, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

All five players have played significant time with the Oilers this season. Omark, the Oilers 4th round draft choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft played 51 games with the Oilers this season, scoring 25 points (5-20-25). He scored 31 points (14-17-31) in 28 games with the Barons this season. That included a five-goal effort November 7 against the Toronto Marlies.

Petry, the Oilers 2nd round choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft played 35 games with the Oilers, registering five points (1-4-5). He played 41 games with the Barons and scored 24 points (7-17-24). At the time of his recall, he was among the top scoring defensemen in the AHL.

O'Marra played in 20 games with the Oilers, scoring five points (1-4-5). In 53 games with Oklahoma City this season, he scored 22 points (2-20-22).

Vande Velde was recalled late in March. He played 12 games with the Oilers, registering two assists. In 67 games with the Barons, he has 16 points (12-4-16).

Hartikainen was recalled late in March and played 11 games with the Oilers, collecting four points (2-2-4). He played 66 games with the Barons where he recorded 42 points (17-25-42).

The five players will join the Barons tomorrow. Oklahoma City leaves early next week to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs in the first round of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs. Games 1 and 2 are slated to be played in Hamilton. Games 3 - 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be played in Oklahoma City.
