Abbotsford Heat News Release
CLEVELAND OH - Matt Ford scored twice and Abbotsford product David Van der Gulik added another as the Lake Erie Monsters ended the playoff hopes of the Abbotsford Heat, shutting out the Heat 3-0 before just under 13000 fans at the Quicken Loans Arena.
Ford scored midway thru the first period to open the scoring, drifting a puck thru traffic and under Abbotsford Heat goaltender Leland Irving, who was screened on the play. Ford would add his second goal just over a minute into the second period, tipping in a point blast past a screened Irving once again to count his 25th goal of the season and stake the Monsters to a 2-0 lead. With less than two minutes to play in the second, Van der Gulik would complete the scoring. While attempting a cross ice pass on a Monsters power play, Van der Gulik's pass kicked off a Heat defender and past Irving. Van der Gulik's 15th would mark the end of the scoring and allow Lake Erie to cruise home to victory.
The Heat will fail to qualify for the post season for the first time in their two year history. Abbotsford will complete their season tomorrow against the Toronto Marlies. Pregame show on Country 107.1 FM will be at 1:45 PM, with Dave Sheldon having the call of the game at 2:00 PDT.
