Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (9-12) stranded 11 baserunners in the 7-2 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens (10-10) Wednesday night.

The Mud Hens got on the board early, scoring two in the first on a single and then a home run off LHP Marcelo Martinez (loss, 0-2).

Toledo put up two more tallies in the third inning, using a double from 1B Josh Lester with runners on first and second to move the score to 4-0 through three innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth the Storm Chasers had one of their best scoring chances of the night with runners at the corners, but came away empty.

The Mud Hens used a walk and the second homer of the game allowed by Martinez to push the lead to 6-0. Martinez lasted 4.1 innings, giving up six earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.

LHP Joey Wentz went 4.2 innings in the start for the Mud Hens, getting his fifth no decision of the season, allowing just two hits with two walks with four strikeouts.

SS Ivan Castillo started a runner train in the bottom of the 5th inning with a single to right field off of the new Toledo pitcher Ricardo Pinto. A single by 2B Clay Dungan and a walk from 1B Nick Pratto got the bases juiced with 2 outs but the Chasers again came up empty in the frame.

In the sixth, Omaha got on the scoreboard, using a single from RF MJ Melindez to put a runner on base. LF Brewer Hicklen was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second and with two outs, 3B Angelo Castellana hit an RBI single into center field to make the score 6-1, scoring the Storm Chasers first run in 19 innings.

After blanking Toledo in the top of the seventh, Omaha used a single from Dungan to leadoff the inning, before a flyout and double play stopped the Storm Chasers cold, trailing 6-1 through seven.

The Mud Hens put up another run in the ninth, extending their lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the final frame, Castillo led off the inning with a walk, moving over on singles from Dungan and Pratto. DH Vinnie Pasquantino hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring the Chasers second and final run of the game.
