
Solar Bears Stumped in 2-1 Shootout Loss to Stingrays

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears (5-3-1-1), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL's Toronto Marlies, fell in the shootout by a 2-1 score to the South Carolina Stingrays (7-5-1-0) in front of 2,926 on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Patrick Gaul scored on Rob Madore at 10:06 of the opening period to give the Stingrays the lead.
Both teams played to a scoreless second frame.
In the third period, Eric Faille fired a one-timer that beat Vitek Vanecek off a feed from Lindsay Sparks at 14:33 to tie the score and eventually force overtime.
The extra period yielded no score; Joe Devin scored in the first round of the shootout and Vanecek denied all three shooters for Orlando to secure the victory for the Stingrays.
Madore took the shootout loss with 33 saves on 34 shots against; Vanecek earned the win with 21 stops on 22 shots.
