BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announced yesterday at a press conference at the Powerade Centre that Kotak Personal Injury Law has stepped up in a big way to support the club's annual Military Appreciation Day.

Nainesh Kotak, Barrister and Solicitor with Kotak Personal Injury Law, has committed to purchase 1,000 tickets to Sunday afternoon's 2:00 PM game against the Kalamazoo Wings to distribute to active and veteran members of the military.

In addition, Kotak has made a sizeable $2,000 donation to Wounded Warriors Canada, a not-for-profit organization that supports Canada's ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families.

With his generous contributions, Sunday afternoon's game will now be known as Kotak Law Military Appreciation Day.

Kotak, a proud and long time supporter of the Beast, knows all too well that there are many community groups and important local organizations that require support and financial assistance but for him, the decision to support Military Appreciation Day was an easy one.

"I look at who has sacrificed the most for Canada and our communities and I think it's a clear answer," Kotak said.

"It's the proud men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces. They have done so much for our communities and this is one way that I, as a Canadian and a member of our community, can give back. To bring out as many troops as possible, cadets and veterans, to a hockey game so they can really enjoy themselves and take a bit of a break from their never-ending commitment to our country."

Kotak sat alongside Beast President and General Manager Cary Kaplan and National Partnerships Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, David Macdonald at Thursday's press conference and explained to the group assembled that supporting our nation's military as well as their families certainly goes a long way.

"The war in Afghanistan was the last major war we have been in and over 40,000 Canadians served," Kotak said.

"There were 158 fatalities and over 2,000 soldiers who were physically wounded and many more who were psychologically scarred. The type of physical injuries we're seeing are catastrophic orthopaedic impairments to the limbs and the legs, through improvised explosive devices. These soldiers and their families were really left out in the dark so to speak and Wounded Warriors Canada was founded to help, at first one particular soldier, but grew to help many soldiers in the aftermath of that war."

Kotak was particularly touched by the efforts of Macdonald, who was extensively injured during a tour of Afghanistan with the Canadian Army in 2009. Rehabilitation back to civilian life was a challenge for Macdonald, which led to his involvement with Wounded Warriors Canada.

"It really touches the heart what they do," Kotak said.

"They help families, they help injured soldiers and they do a great job with soldiers who have a lot of psychological issues, like post-traumatic stress disorder that's really coming and developing now many years after the war. The stories really touch our hearts and the story of David Macdonald really touches our hearts. A soldier who was terrible wounded who has since ran two half-marathons for the military. It touched my heart and I think it has touched all of our hearts in the community and that's why I'm really proud and honoured to be partnering with them and supporting them on Kotak Law Military Appreciation Day."

In addition to the aforementioned activities for Kotak Law Military Appreciation Day, the Beast will be wearing specialty military-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game. NHL legend, Hockey Hall of Famer and Veteran of the Second World War Johnny Bower will be on hand to sign autographs and kick off the day's festivities.
