Devin and Stingrays Earn 2-1 Shootout Win over Solar Bears
November 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-Joe Devin scored the lone goal of the shootout to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to a 2-1 shootout victory Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Stingrays won their third straight contest and Stingrays goalie Vitek Vanecek allowed two or less goals for his seventh straight appearance.
South Carolina forward Patrick Gaul opened the scoring at the 10:06 mark of the first period. The Solar Bears turned the puck over in front of their own net. Brett Cameron collected the backhand and chipped a shot towards the Orlando goal. Orlando goaltender Rob Madore made a left pad save, but Gaul converted on the rebound for his first goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The 1-0 score would hold until late in the third period. Orlando would tie the game at the 14:33 mark on a goal by Eric Faille. The Stingrays attempted to bring the puck out of the defensive zone, but Stephan Vigier was hooked. Lindsay Sparks stole the puck and fed Faille for a one-timer from the left-wing. His shot beat Vanecek over the left shoulder to tie the game.
The game would advance to three-on-three overtime. The Stingrays peppered Madore with five shots, including two point-blank opportunities from Derek DeBlois, but the goaltender made several desperation saves to send the game to a shootout.
Devin would score the lone goal of the shootout, beating Madore under the catching glove in round one. Vanecek turned aside all three Orlando attempts to give South Carolina the victory.
The Stingrays improved to 7-5-1 on the season. They outshot the Solar Bears 35-22 on the evening.
