WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers came into Friday night, focused on bouncing back from Wednesday's defeat and playing a solid 60-minute hockey game. They succeeded with flying colors. Jarrett Burton and Patrick McGrath scored twice, while Mike Gunn lit the lamp for his first professional goal, as the Nailers rocked the Reading Royals, 6-1 at WesBanco Arena.

After being held to just one goal on Wednesday, the Nailers were eager to get the offense going, and it started right away at the 1:50 mark of the first period. Riley Brace and Adam Krause battled the puck free on the left side of the offensive zone, sending a pass back to Mike Gunn at the left point. Gunn let a wrist shot go, finding the twine for his first professional goal. The Royals came back to tie the score a little less than five minutes later, right after a Wheeling penalty expired. Robbie Czarnik's shot from the right circle slid through Franky Palazzese and into the cage. With under six minutes remaining, the Nailers regained the lead. Brett Stern waltzed into the slot, and put a shot on goal, which was stopped. However, Jarrett Burton took care of the rebound, slamming it in on the right side of the crease. 14 seconds later, Patrick McGrath put the home team ahead by two, drilling home a wrist shot from the left side of the slot. That goal also ended the evening for Martin Ouellette in the Reading crease.

Wheeling added to its lead in the middle frame, as a pair of players netted their second goals of the contest. The first tally came when Riley Brace gained the offensive blueline, and dumped a shot onto Connor Knapp. The save was made, but a juicy rebound was allowed to Jarrett Burton, who squeezed his chance under Knapp's right arm. Then, with exactly ten minutes elapsed in the stanza, Patrick McGrath captured his second of the game, banging in the rebound of Brett Stern's shot from the right point. Anton Zlobin also assisted on the fifth goal for the Nailers.

Riley Brace tacked on one more goal in the third period, as he pounced on a loose puck in the slot, and fired a wrist shot into the right side of the goal for a 6-1 final score.

Franky Palazzese backstopped his second win of the week for Wheeling, batting away 27 of the 28 shots he faced. Martin Ouellette took the loss for Reading, allowing three goals on nine shots, before being replaced by Connor Knapp, who stopped 26 of 29 shots in relief.

The homestand for the Nailers continues on Saturday night, when fans will be able to meet former West Virginia Mountaineers Pat White and Steve Slaton on WVU College Football Night at 7:35 against the Evansville IceMen. Wheeling and Evansville will meet again on Sunday at 4:05, with a post game skate with the team (even numbered players) and McDonald's $5 kids tickets.

Individual tickets, season tickets, mini plans, and group tickets are on sale now, with prices starting as low as $10 per seat. For tickets and more information, call the Nailers at (304) 234-GOAL or online at wheelingnailers.com.
