Jackals Sign Former First Round Draft Pick

ELMIRA, NY - November 13, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the team has signed veteran defenseman Nick Petrecki to a Standard Player Contract.

Petrecki, 26, joins the Jackals as a seasoned veteran of 311 professional hockey games, including a stint with the San Jose Sharks in the NHL. The seventh-year pro spent parts of the last two seasons with the Rochester Americans after he was acquired from the Worcester Sharks during the 2013-14 campaign. Petrecki began his career in the Sharks' organization and played five seasons with Worcester after being drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-3 240-pound defenseman made his NHL debut with the Sharks on January 29, 2013. In 311 professional games, Petrecki has logged 49 points (eight goals, 41 assists) and 615 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Petrecki skated for two seasons at Boston College. He led the team in penalty minutes in both seasons accruing 263 penalty minutes and 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in 77 NCAA games. Petrecki also helped Boston College win the Hockey East Championship and NCAA Championship during the 2007-08 season.

Additionally, the Jackals have released defenseman Joe Houk from his contract and have added Matt Cooper as an emergency backup goaltender.
