Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - It was a tough start to the weekend for the Beloit Snappers, as the men in green dropped the first of three against the Lansing Lugnuts by a final score of 10-5. Despite outhitting the Lugnuts, two four-run innings for Lansing ended up being the deciding factor and propelling Lansing to the victory.
In the game, Beloit found themselves in an early hole after Lansing scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning. However, that would not deter the Snappers, as Beloit would answer right back with two runs of their own in the top of the second.
In the second, Beloit started the inning off hot with a double from Marcos Brito to open up play. Just one batter later, Cobie Vance singled on a ground ball that trickled just far enough into centerfield to plate Brito for Beloit's first run of the game.
Still in the second and after an Anthony Churlin walk, Lester Madden singled into right field to score Vance and cut the Snappers deficit in half. Unfortunately, that would be all for the Snappers in the inning, as the game would head to the third with Beloit trailing 4-2.
Lansing would bust the game wide open in the fifth inning after putting up their second four-run inning of the night. The Lugnuts would get 4 hits in the inning that resulted in those four runs to push Lansing out to an 8-2 lead.
The Snappers would keep fighting though, getting a run in each of the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to narrow the gap and hang around.
In the seventh, Skyler Weber led the inning off with a double, to be later knocked in by a Logan Farrar single. Weber did not stop there, as he laced a double into right field in the eighth inning, which in turn plated a run, Churlin, this time.
In the ninth, Ryan Gridley would start the inning off with a double to centerfield and would later come around to score on a Lansing fielding error. However, that would not be enough as Beloit ended up falling by a final score of 10-5.
The Snappers will be back in action tomorrow continuing their road trip in Michigan against the Lansing Lugnuts in game two of the three game set. First Pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CT.
