Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Fort Wayne, IN- The pitching staff of the Quad Cities River Bandits continued to dominate as they picked up a series-opening 2-0 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Friday night at Parkview Field. The River Bandits have not allowed a run in the last 17.0 innings and improved to 4-0 on the road trip. Scott Schreiber's two-run home run in the sixth inning provided all of the offense.

Matt Ruppenthal made his first start of the season to open the game for the Bandits (16-10). He worked 4.0 innings and allowed just one hit. The right-hander struck out four and issued four walks. Reliever Jojanse Torres followed out of the pen to earn the win by striking out seven over 3.0 scoreless frames. Humberto Castellanos worked out of a tough jam in the eighth and closed the game in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The only offense of the night came in the top of the sixth inning with two outs against Fort Wayne reliever Dan Dallas. The southpaw retired the first two batters of the inning, but surrendered a single to Enmanuel Valdez to extend the frame. Schreiber took advantage by launching a deep home run onto the berm behind the wall in left center field. The home run was his third of the campaign.

Fort Wayne (12-15) threatened against Castellanos in the eighth inning by putting runners on second and third with no outs. Castellanos worked out of the tight spot by striking out the next two hitters and inducing a bouncer to third to end the inning.

Valdez and Holderbach were the only two River Bandits with multiple hits in the game. Tucupita Marcano went 2-4 for the TinCaps.

The River Bandits and Tincaps will play the second game of their series at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday night. The Bandits have not yet announced a starting pitcher for the game. Fort Wayne will give the ball to RHP Angel Acevedo (0-3, 5.00).

All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
