
Chiefs Beat Hot Rods 2-1 for Sixth Straight Win

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs took the series opener Friday against the Bowling Green Hot Rods with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to come away with a 2-1 win. The win, their sixth in a row puts the Chiefs at 12-13 on the season.
The teams were locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel until the Hot Rods broke through in the top of the eighth against Chiefs reliever Thomas St. Clair. Chris Betts walked and Tony Pena singled to put runners on first and second with one out. They advanced to second and third on a passed ball, then Jake Palomaki singled home Betts for a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs were held to one hit through seven innings by Hot Rods starter Caleb Sampen, but broke through in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Nick Sprengel. Wadye Ynfante led off with a hard double down the third-base line and Alexis Wilson walked and Brandon Riley singled to center and Ynfante scored to tie the game at one. With runners on first and second Ediwn Figuera reached on a fielders' choice and Wilson scored the go ahead run on a throwing error by Hot Rods first baseman Kaleo Johnson for the 2-1 lead.
Diego Cordero took the no decision as he pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, and striking out four. St. Clair pitched one inning, allowing two hits, one run and one walk. Evan Sisk (1-0) notched his first win of the season. He pitched the final 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit and notching one strikeout.
The Chiefs continue their three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Promotions can be found on the team website or social media accounts. Peoria will start RH Alvaro Seijas (1-2, 2.79) against Bowling Green LH Shane McClanahan (1-3, 5.12).
