
Lugnuts Stars Kirk Promoted, Groshans Placed on IL

LANSING, Mich. - In conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, Lansing Lugnuts catcher Alejandro Kirk has been promoted to A-Advanced Dunedin, shortstop Jordan Groshans has been placed on the Injured List backdated to May 1st, and infielder Rafael Lantigua and outfielder Tanner Kirwer have been transferred to the Lugnuts from Extended Spring.
Kirk, 20, was batting .299 in 21 games with three home runs and a remarkable 18 walks compared to just eight strikeouts. Groshans, 19, is hitting .342 in 19 games, slugging six double and two home runs. The two players have the two highest OPSes on the team, with Kirk at .947 and Groshans posting a .935 OPS.
Lantigua, 21, was signed by Toronto as an international free agent from Puerto Plata, DR. The infielder is coming off a season hitting .303 with a .422 on-base percentage in 48 games for Advanced-Rookie Bluefield.
Kirwer, 23, was drafted in the 20th round in 2017 from Niagara University. A native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, he batted .280 in 61 games with Short-Season Class A Vancouver in 2018, leading the Canadians in hits (61) and runs (32) and tying for the Northwest League lead with 28 stolen bases.
The official Lugnuts roster is attached, with 24 active players and six players on the Injured List.
The Lansing Locos, the Lugnuts' new identity as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversion campaign, open a three-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Beloit Snappers at Cooley Law School Stadium, with LAFCU Fireworks
