BURLINGTON, IA - The West Michigan Whitecaps fell in an early hole and never recovered as part of a 5-2 loss to the Burlington Bees on Friday night at Community Field.

The loss denies West Michigan the chance to even their record at .500 and brings them to an even 2-2 record on their six-game road trip.

The Bees stung the Whitecaps with a four-run second inning on Friday night, as run-scoring singles by Livan Soto and Connor Fitzsimons helped Burlington take an early lead. An RBI-triple by D.C. Arendas highlighted the Bees outburst and gave Burlington a lead they never relinquished. West Michigan scored their first run on a sacrifice fly by Parker Meadows in the fifth, but the Bees answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error by catcher Chris Proctor. In the eighth, the "Caps took advantage of a Bees error to plate their second run but came no closer as they were retired to end the contest.

West Michigan lefty Adam Wolf (1-3) struggled through a difficult second inning in taking his third loss of the season. The southpaw gave up five runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Bees starter Jose Soriano (2-2) dominated "Caps hitters in throwing five innings and allowing just a run on two hits while striking out five to earn his second win of 2019. The Bees improve their first-place Midwest League Western Division record to 17-11, while the "Caps fall to 12-14. Infielder Jose King reached base three times to lead a quiet "Caps offense.
