Kane County Cougars News Release
Eastlake, Ohio - The Kane County Cougars (17-11) scored four times in the 10th inning to take down the Lake County Captains (14-12) on Friday night at Classic Park. The Cougars are now 3-1 on the current six-game road swing.
The Captains tagged Cougar starter Ryan Weiss with three hits in the first inning. It led to two runs. Bo Naylor's RBI ground out and Mitch Reeve's run-scoring single made it 2-0 Lake County. The Cougar offense found the board in the fourth inning. With Zac Almond at first and Geraldo Perdomo at second with no one out, the combination of a wild pitch and throwing error by catcher Bo Naylor allowed Perdomo to score. Buddy Kennedy followed up that sequence with a two-run homer to give the Cougars their first lead.
The lead was short-lived. In the bottom half of the fourth, Hosea Nelson's sac fly tied the game, 3-3. In the seventh, Quentin Holmes doubled with two outs, stole third and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Tyler Freeman. Zac Almond's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning tied the game for the Cougars.
In extras, Eddie Hernandez broke the tie with an RBI single, scoring Andy Yerzy who was automatically placed at second base to begin the 10th inning. With one out, Eduardo Diaz reached on a throwing error by the pitcher Manuel Alvarez. That allowed Hernandez to score from first. A Buddy Kennedy bases loaded walk and an Alek Thomas RBI knock completed the four-run frame. Naylor recorded a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth.
Chester Pimentel (2-1) took home the win for the Cougars. He allowed the unearned run in the 10th. The right-hander tossed two innings, allowed one hit, struck out four and walked none. Manuel Alvarez (1-1) suffered the loss. All four runs he allowed in the 10th were unearned.
The Cougars and Captains play game two of the three-game series Saturday night at 5:30 central time. Follow the action live with Joe Brand on AM 1280 WBIG and on kccougars.com.
