
Snakes stay in fourth

COLUMBUS, Ga. â The Columbus Cottonmouths, despite having two losses on the past week, remain in fourth place in the ECHL's Central Division. The Snakes fell to Florence and Columbia on Tuesday and Friday, respectively, before getting revenge on Florence Saturday in a 10-0 rout of the Pride. The 10 goals marked the highest total for a Columbus team in ECHL history and both the most goals scored and biggest margin of victory in the ECHL so far this season. Jason Tapp also earned his fourth shutout in the Valentine's Day win, tying him for the league lead.

Friday, February 20 â Louisiana at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST
The Cottonmouths and IceGators square off in the Snake Pit on Friday night. Louisiana, the leaders of the Central Division, have not faced the Snakes since January 2, a 6-0 Snakes win in Columbus. On the season, Columbus is 2-3-0 against Louisiana. The two teams play each other one more time in the regular season in a rescheduled game at the Cajundome on March 17. If the season were to end today, Columbus would be matched up against Louisiana in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
Saturday, February 21 â South Carolina at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST
The Snakes face the Stingrays on Saturday night, the first time since January 3rd when emergency backup goaltender Bobby Haselden earned a tie for the Snakes in a 2-1 shootout loss. The Cottonmouths on the season are 1-1-1 against the Stingrays, with a 3-0 shutout win against them in North Charleston, S.C. on January 6.
Sunday, February 22 â Columbus at Greenville, 2:30 PM EST
The Snakes make their second visit of the season to the BI-LO Center in Greenville, S.C. to face the Greenville Grrrowl. Columbus defeated Greenville 2-1 on December 30, the only other meeting this season in Greenville between the two teams. The Snakes have outscored Greenville by a combined 13-2 in their two games against the Grrrowl in the Snake Pit and are 3-0-0 on the season against them.
COTTONMOUTHS WEEK IN REVIEW
Tuesday, February 10 â Florence 8 at Columbus 5
The Cottonmouths allowed a season-high eight goals as they lost to the Florence Pride on Tuesday, their first action in ten days. Tomas Micka was one of the bright spots for the Snakes, however, tallying two goals, and Brad Voth, Peter Hogan, and Rumun Ndur tallied the other scores. Joel Martin took the loss for the Snakes, allowing four goals on 16 shots in his first action in net for Columbus. Jason Tapp, whom Martin relieved in net in the second period, stopped 13 of 17. Sebastien LaPlante saved 31 of 36 for Florence. Columbus was a whopping 3 for 5 on the power play while holding Florence scoreless in their four chances.
Friday, February 13 â Columbia 3 at Columbus 2
The Snakes fell to the Columbia Inferno by a 3-2 margin on Friday night. Tomas Micka scored again for the Snakes, and Dan Tessier scored a goal in his first game back since being recalled to Toronto. Jason Tapp took the loss in net for the Snakes, stopping 14 of 17, and Josh Blackburn picked up the win for Columbia as he stopped 19 of 21. The Snakes scored a goal on the power play in three chances while holding Columbia to 0 for 6 on the man advantage.
Saturday, February 14 â Florence 0 at Columbus 10
The Snakes exploded for a season-high and ECHL team record 10 goals in a 10-0 whitewash of the Florence Pride. Dan Tudin led the way on offense with a hat trick, Christian Larrivee added two goals, and Dan Tessier, Mathieu Roy, Colin Pepperall, Carlyle Lewis, and Rumun Ndur added a goal apiece. Jason Tapp earned his league lead-tying fourth shutout, turning away all 24 Florence shots on goal. Sebastien LaPlante allowed the first four goals on 14 shots before being pulled in favor of Matt Underhill, who surrendered six goals on 20 shots before being pulled again for LaPlante, who notched the final two saves. The Snakes scored a power play goal in their only chance while not allowing a power play goal to Florence in the Pride's two chances.
THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
1. Dan Tudin, F â Tudin had two assists on Tuesday and had a hat trick and an assist on Saturday.
2. Colin Pepperall, F â Pepperall notched two assists as well on Tuesday, two more assists on Friday, and scored a goal on Saturday.
3. Jason Tapp, G â Tapp rebounded from the game on Tuesday and loss on Friday with a shutout on Saturday to tie him for the ECHL lead.
