Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

LAST WEEK: Florence went 3-1-0 last week with road wins over Columbus and Greenville and a home win over Roanoke, to go along with a road loss in Columbus. The Pride are now 6-4-0 in their last 10 games, and for the season are 20-24-6 for 46 points and remain in seventh place in the Southern Division.

Tuesday, February 10 @ Columbus PRIDE 8 Cottonmouths 5

Florence wrapped up its five-game road trip in a big way, scoring a season-high eight goals in an 8-5 win over Columbus. The Cottonmouths scored first on a Peter Hogan power-play goal at the 7:30 mark of the first period, but the Pride, starting a trend that would carry through the night, tied the game just 1:19 later on Scott Balan's first goal of the season. The Pride scored within 2:41 after all five Cottonmouth's goals. Florence took its first lead of the night at the 14:01 mark of the first on an Eric Naud shorthanded tally. Both Kyle Kidney (2g 1a) and Wes Goldie (3a) notched three points in the victory.

Friday, February 13 v. Roanoke PRIDE 2 Express 1

Florence returned home for the first time in two weeks, and picked up a one-goal victory over Roanoke. The Express took an early lead, as Carl Mallette scored just 2:03 into the contest. It stayed that way until the 6:15 mark of the second, when Bobby Russell scored on a two-man advantage to tie it. The Pride got the game-winner at the 8:02 mark of the third when Wes Goldie slipped a rebound past Roanoke goaltender Jason Wolfe. Despite just a one-goal win, the Pride dominated the Express throughout the game, outshooting the visitors 42-18.

Saturday, February 14 @ Columbus Cottonmouths 10 PRIDE 0

The Pride's two-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Saturday night in Columbus. Dan Tudin (3g 1a) and Dan Tessier (1g 3a) both notched four points in the big Columbus win.

Sunday, February 15 @ Greenville PRIDE 4 Grrrowl 3

The Pride returned to the win column Sunday afternoon, downing the Grrrowl 4-3. Bobby Russell started the scoring, tallying a power-play goal 8:18 into the second period. Greenville then went ahead, scoring two goals 3:01 apart. Just 1:10 after the Grrrowl went ahead, the Pride tied it on Russell's second goal of the day, and then went ahead for good only 1:52 later on an Adam Elzinga tally. Mark McRae made it 4-2, scoring his eighth goal of the season 2:49 into the third period. That would turn out to be a big goal, as Jason Metcalfe pulled the Grrrowl back within one with 4:43 remaining. Greenville put pressure on Sebasiten Laplante in the closing seconds, but the Pride goaltender came up big, stoning Scott Kirton on two shots with just three seconds remaining.
