
Checkers continue playoff push with two games this week

(Charlotte, NC - Monday, February 16) The Charlotte Checkers will take a short break from their current playoff bid challenge and prepare for a short two-game week this week. The Checkers (26-20-6 = 58 points) will host the Greenville Grrrowl on Tuesday at Cricket Arena at 7:00 p.m., and then entertain the Greensboro Generals on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
OVERALL: 26-20-6 = 58 POINTS
HOME: 11-10-4 = 26 POINTS
ROAD: 15-10-2 = 32 POINTS

STANDINGS FIFTH PLACE IN THE SOUTHERN DIVISION OF THE EASTERN CONFERENCE
PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Checkers are in fifth place in the ECHL's Southern Division of the Eastern Conference with 58 points. The top four teams in the division qualify for post-season play. Charlotte trails fourth place South Carolina by only one point but is giving away four games in hand to the Stingrays. The Checkers trail Florida by three points and have two games in hand on the Everblades, with Greensboro only five points ahead of Charlotte. Charlotte and Greensboro have each played 52 games.
THIS WEEK:
Tuesday, February 17: Greenville @ Charlotte - The Checkers will meet the Grrrowl for the final time at Cricket Arena this season in the seven-game season series. Charlotte is 3-0-1 against the Grrrowl this season and 2-0-0 at Cricket Arena. Greenville enters the week at 9-35-5 for 23 points and is in last place in the Southern Division. Former Checker and current Grrrowl forward, Scott Kirton, played in his 500th regular season professional game on Sunday, 2/15. He has play in a total of 558 games including playoff contests. Forward Bobby Cunningham leads Greenville in scoring at 21g, 19a, = 40 pts in 37 games. Lifetime the Checkers are 14-19-2 versus the Grrrowl.
Saturday, February 21: Greensboro @ Charlotte - Charlotte will host the Greensboro Generals for the final time in the regular season at Cricket Arena in the eight-game season series. Greensboro begins the week with a three-game winning streak and is 7-3-0 in its last 10 games. The Checkers are 2-3-0 versus the Generals so far this season, including a 1-2-0 mark at home. Greensboro (31-20-1 = 63 pts) starts the week five points ahead of the Checkers and in second place in the Southern Division. Defenseman Geno Parrish is tied for second in the ECHL with 43 assists and ranks second among defensemen with 50 points. Goalie Jamie Hodson is 8-6-0 and is second in the ECHL with a .935 save percentage. Lifetime the Checkers are 28-10-3 versus the Generals.

* The Checkers are 7-2-1 under new Head Coach Derek Wilkinson since he took over Jan 29
* Checkers went 2-1-0 last week.
* Charlotte is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games.
* Rookie right Mike Wirll had his nine-game point streak snapped in Sunday afternoon's 2-1 loss to Roanoke. Going into Sunday, Wirll had at least one point in nine straight games with 9g, 4a, = 13 pts in that span.
* Center Richard Keyes had his eight-game point streak end in Sunday afternoon's loss to Roanoke. Going into Sunday, Keyes had at least one point in eight straight games with 5g, 10a, = 15 pts in that span.
* Left wing Lucas Lawson saw his five-game point streak also end Sunday afternoon. Prior to Sunday, Lawson had at least one point in five straight games with 3g, 5a, = 8 pts in that period.
* Prior to Sunday's 2-1 loss to Roanoke, the Checkers had scored at least three goals in nine straight games.
* Defenseman Marc St. Jean leads the ECHL in short-handed assists with five.
* Goalie Scott Meyer is the tenth best goalie in the ECHL with a .924 save percentage and 2.43 GAA.
* Charlotte is in fifth place in the ECHL's Southern Division of the Eastern Conference, just one points behind fourth place South Carolina for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division.
* The Checkers are 24th on the power play at 13.9% while 5th on the penalty kill at 87.3%.

reassigned him to Charlotte.
Sun. Feb 15 Charlotte placed right wing Doug Christiansen on the seven-day IR list.
Sun. Feb 15 Charlotte moved defenseman Patrick Aufiero from the seven-day IR list to
the 30-day IR list.
