Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta went 1-1-1 this week, winning and losing games in overtime to take three out of six points on the weekend.
2/12 South Carolina 5 @ Augusta 4 The Lynx grabbed the lead in the game when Daisuke Obara scored his first goal for Augusta, and then Jonathan Gagnon scored twice to open the second period and put the Lynx ahead 3-1. South Carolina would tie the game at 3-3 before Louis Goulet notched his fourth point and first goal of the night to make it 4-3. A late rally by the Stingrays sent the game to OT, and Kevin Spiewack scored the winner for the Stingrays in a 5-4 victory.
2/13 Greensboro 5 @ Augusta 2
Mike Bayrack scored to give Greensboro an early lead, but Louis Goulet and Jarrett Thompson scored consecutively to put the Lynx up 2-1 at the end of the first period. From there, however, the Generals would marshal four unanswered goals for a 5-2 win. Daniel Berthiaume stopped 51 shots in the win for the Generals, as the Lynx put a team season high 53 shots on net. Jason Saal took the loss in net for Augusta, giving up four goals on 24 shots faced.
2/14 Augusta 2 @ Greenville 1 (OT)
The Lynx jumped on the board just 27 seconds into the game as Terry Marchant put the team up 1-0, but Greenville evened the game halfway through the third period to send things to overtime. In the extra frame, Brad Fraser threw a puck in front of the Grrrowl net, and it deflected in off Marchant for his second goal of the night, and the Lynx's first win in OT this season. Gregg Naumenko stopped 36 shots for the win, while Michel Robinson turned aside 43 for the Grrrowl.
Lynx Notes
* Terry Marchant's 12 shots on goal ties a Lynx record for shots in a game, set by Darren Colbourne on 2/20/99 in a 4-3 loss to the Birmingham Bulls.
* Jonathan Gagnon's twelve game point scoring streak came to an end this Saturday against the Grrrowl. Over that stretch he had 11 goals and 19 points, the longest point streak of the year for a Lynx player.
* Daisuke Obara scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform on Thursday against South Carolina.
* Augusta's 2-1 win over Greenville was the team's first overtime win this year in four OT decisions (shootouts notwithstanding).
* Augusta's 53 shots on goal was a team season high against Greensboro on Friday, a 5-2 loss.
