Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Bridgeport, Conn. - The Sound Tigers used James Sixsmith's second goal with the team and fourth of the season, to earn a 2-1 win over the Worcester Sharks. Nathan Lawson turned aside 37 shots in his first game since March 1 in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, to earn his 16th win of the season. Junior Lessard opened the scoring for the Sound Tigers in the second period and Riley Armstrong extended his scoring streak to four games with a tally in the third. With the win, the Sound Tigers pull into the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 42-20-3-5 and are a point ahead of the Hershey Bears with 92 points.

After a scoreless first 20 minutes, the Sound Tigers were able to open the scoring 8:34 into the middle frame on Lessard's eleventh goal of the season. Jamie Fraser threw a shot on net that bounced around in the crease before Lessard was able to slam home to give the Sound Tigers the 1-0. Ben Walter also had an assist on the game's first tally.

Worcester was able snap Lawson's shutout bid and tie the score at one, a minute into the third period on Armstrong's 23rd goal of the year while on the power-play. Tom Cavanagh and Lukas Kaspar had the assists on the goal and for Cavanagh, the helper gives the center-man a point in each of his last eight games. Five minutes later, Sixsmith would redirect a perfect feed from Tyler Haskins past Sharks' starting goalie, Thomas Greiss to give the Sound Tigers the 2-1 lead. Chris Lee started the play at the center-point and snapped a pass over to Haskins along the right-wing boards. Haskins wound up as if to take a slap-shot, and fired the puck to the far-post where Sixsmith was waiting to tip in the game-winning goal.

Lawson finished the game, stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced to improve his league leading goals-against average to 1.78 and save-percentage to .939. Greiss had 20 saves in the defeat. The Sound Tigers were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage and 2-for-3 on the penalty-kill.

Tomorrow night, the Sound Tigers will continue their three-games in three-nights weekend with a match-up against the Providence Bruins. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. On Sunday, SpongeBob Squarepants will attend the Sound Tigers game at 4 p.m. against the Portland Pirates.
