Admirals Fall to Monsters 2-0

Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday night in Lake Erie, the Milwaukee Admirals handed the Monsters an overtime loss on their home ice. Friday night, the Monsters avenged their loss by plundering the Admirals on their turf at the Bradley Center with a 2-0 shutout.

The loss snapped an eight-game point streak for the Admirals, but the team still managed to clinch a berth in the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs by virtue of Chicago's 6-3 loss to Manitoba.

A scoreless first half of the game meant a lot of heavy hitting and back and forth action between both zones. As tensions often arise between teams when they play back-to-back games, it is no surprise that a fight between Admirals Captain Nolan Yonkman and Lake Erie Assistant captain Matt Hendricks broke out just 45 seconds into the second period.

It wasn't until 13:20 of the second that Lake Eerie put a goal on the scoreboard, which would ultimately be the one that decided the game. During 4-on-4 action, after working the puck around the Admirals zone, defenseman Nigel Williams fired a slow, fluttery wrist shot from the point. With a heavy amount of traffic in front of him, the blinded goaltender Drew MacIntyre stood no chance as it slipped between his legs. The assists were credited to Codey Burki and Per Ledin.

The Admirals were 0 for 6 on the power-play, which frustrated the players and coaches alike.

"We didn't do a very good job on our power-play tonight so we just couldn't draw much momentum from that," explained Milwaukee Head Coach Lane Lambert.

Still without a goal late in the third, the Admirals pulled MacIntyre in hopes of tying it up at one with a minute left. During that desperate attempt, Per Ledin posted an empty net tally in with just 1.5 seconds remaining.

"There are certain times where you have to give the other team credit," said Lambert. "I thought they played a solid road game and aside from the 1st period they really didn't give us a whole lot to work with."

The Admirals are back in action on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm versus Hamilton at the Bradley Center. Following the game there will be a free concert with country music star and lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish Darius Rucker. Fans can buy tickets by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more people receive a minimum of $2 off of each ticket.
