Devils Take Down Bears, 2-1

March 20, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - Goaltender Jeff Frazee kept the league's leading offense at bay as his 43 saves helped the Lowell Devils defeat the Hershey Bears, 2-1, on Friday at the Tsongas Arena. The win ended a four-game losing streak for Lowell and allowed the Devils to pull within five points of the fourth and final playoff berth in the Atlantic Division.

With the game tied up, 1-1, going into the final frame, Lowell took its first lead of the game at 3:53 on Olivier Magnan's second goal of the year. The Devils defenseman trailed into the zone on a 3-on-2 rush and took a drop pass from Barry Tallackson that he blasted by the glove of Michal Neuvirth. It would be the only lead the Devils would need, as Frazee was a perfect 17-for-17 in the period to record his 24th win of the season.

Hershey went ahead, 1-0, at 13:59 of the first after the Devils turned the puck over in the corner and Jay Beagle was alone in front to throw a shot over the shoulder of Frazee.

Lowell tied the game with 2:40 remaining until the intermission as Alexander Vasyunov was denied by Neuvirth, but Brad Mills came streaking in to fire home the rebound for his fifth of the season.

The Lowell Devils continue their quest for a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs on Saturday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. versus the Worcester Sharks. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Rod Pelley Bobblehead, courtesy of Pepsi.
