Manitoba Moose News Release

In their fourth and final meeting the Manitoba Moose beat the Chicago Wolves 6-3 to earn their 46th victory of the season at the Allstate Arena on Friday night. Greg Rallo earned his first two-goal game, Jason Krog recorded three helpers, while Mark Cullen, Michael Grabner, Matt Pope and Guillaume Desbiens all notched singles. Goaltender Cory Schneider tied the franchise record for most wins by a goaltender in a single season by stopping 32 shots for his 26th victory this campaign.

Future NHL goaltenders Cory Schneider and Ondrej Pavelec manned the nets on opposite ends of the ice as the Moose and Wolves embarked on their final regular season contest on Friday night.

In his first game back in the line-up after sitting out for 24 due to injury, Mark Cullen opened the scoring a mere 33 seconds into the game beating Pavelec on his glove side. The Moose couldn't hold onto their lead for long as Spencer Machacek wired the puck behind Schneider to tie the game at 1:44.

The Wolves received the first powerplay of the game when Dusty Collins was penalized at 2:01. With five shots on the man-advantage, Machacek netted his second of the night to put the home team in front.

Back-and-forth scoring continued when the Moose planted themselves in the Wolves zone at 5:13. With a perfect set up by Jason Krog, Greg Rallo snapped the puck over Pavelec to knot the game at two.

Manitoba's powerplay unit made their debut 3:12 into the second period, but Chicago's penalty killers ensured the Moose wouldn't get the go ahead goal during the two-minute advantage.

At 13:14, the two-goal tie was broken by the Wolves. With a maze of bodies in front of Schneider, Clay Wilson wired the puck through the crowd for a 3-2 tally. Less than a minute later, Greg Rallo notched his second of the game, unassisted, to tie things back up at three.

1:02 into the third period, Michael Grabner broke Pavelec for the fourth time and regained the lead for his visiting club, 4-3. The Moose extended their lead even further when Guillaume Desbiens' one-time shot flew over Pavelec for a two-goal lead.

With 1:20 to go in the game, the Moose earned their fourth powerplay when Brent Sterling was called out for boarding. New addition, Matt Pope scored a back-hander on the empty net to confirm a 6-3 win for the Moose.
