Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - The Wolf Pack took a 3-1 win over the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic center to deny the Pirates bid for three straight wins.

The Pirates struck first just past the midpoint of the first period when Nathan Gerbe floated a point shot from the left side during a power play towards the net. It bounced in front of the net and beat Hartford goaltender Miikka Wiikman to put Portland on top 1-0. Gerbe's 25th goal of the year came from Felix Schutz and Tim Kennedy at 12:06 of the first period. The Wolf Pack answered back late in the first when Patrick Rissmiller uncorked a slap shot from the left wing and beat Jhonas Enroth for his 10th goal of the year. Rissmiller's goal was unassisted at 19:02 of the second and left the game tied at one heading into the second frame. In the second period, the Wolf Pack controlled the play and cashed in when Mark Bell sent a puck to the front of the net and P.A. Parenteau tipped it home for his 28th goal of the year. Patrick Rissmiller grabbed a helper along with Bell on the goal at 5:12 of the second period. Later in the same frame, Brian Fahey got his third of the year on a power play with Rissmiller and Michael Sauer getting assists at 14:17 of the second. The Wolf Pack took a 3-1 lead into the third. In the final period, the Pirates managed seven shots on net but couldn't beat Wiikman and the Wolf Pack took the 3-1 win. Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 32 saves on 35 shots and picked up the win. Miikka Wiikman stopped 22 of 23 shots to pick up the win for Hartford.
