Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday announced that defenseman Brian Lashoff has been assigned by the Detroit Red Wings to the American Hockey League club, which in turn assigned defenseman Brett Peterson to the ECHL's Phoenix Roadrunners.

Lashoff, 18, attended Detroit's training camp last fall as a free agent and was signed by the Red Wings on September 30, 2008, prior to beginning his third season with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

The brother of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Lashoff, Brian registered 13 points (1-12-13) in 25 games with Barrie this season before a December trade to Kingston, where he earned 19 points (6-13-19) in 35 games while serving as captain of the Frontenacs.

A native of Albany, New York, Lashoff tied for 24th among OHL blueliners this season with 32 points (7-25-32), earning the Frontenacs' nomination for the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the best OHL defenseman. He was also nominated for the Mickey Renaud Captain's Trophy.

Peterson, 27, has appeared in 11 games with Grand Rapids this season, contributing one assist and four PIM with a plus-three rating.

The Griffins will host the Toronto Marlies both tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m. before embarking on a franchise-record eight-game road trip.
