Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (March 21, 2009) - A hat trick from Alexandre Picard and a goal each from Dan Spang and Nikita Filatov lifted the Syracuse Crunch to a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over the Rochester Americans at the War Memorial at Oncenter tonight, in front of 5,121 fans.

Rochester tallied the game's first marker and went up 1-0 at the 7:37 mark of the first period when, on the power play, Shawn Matthias shuffled a shot on net where Randall Gelech found the rebound and tucked it past Crunch starter Kevin Lalande.

The Crunch answered to tie the game eight minutes into the second stanza when Picard scored the first of his three goals on the power play by jamming home a rebound of a Dan Spang wrister from the left circle past Mike Brodeur to make it 1-1.

Jason Garrison gave Rochester back the lead just a minute and a half later when his slapper from the left point found its way through a screen to make it 2-1.

The Crunch scored the first of their four unanswered third period goals 5:18 into the frame when Dan Spang collected the rebound of a Derek MacKenzie shot from the bottom of the right circle and chipped a backhand up and over the outstretched right pad of Brodeur to knot the game at 2-2. The goal was Spang's second in as many games.

Picard notched his second of the game by slamming home the rebound from Nick Holden's point shot past Brodeur just three minutes later to give Syracuse its first lead of the game at 3-2

Picard's hat-trick tally came on a great individual effort when he collected the puck in the neutral zone, picked up speed and drove hard to the net from the right wing boards. The Les Saules, Quebec native muscled his way around the defenseman and forced a shot through Brodeur to give Syracuse the 4-2 advantage.

Nikita Filatov iced the game for the Crunch when he took a pass from Mike Blunden, cut to the middle of the ice just above the left hash marks and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Brodeur to make it 5-2.
