Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Jon Kalinski scored with 19.5 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Philadelphia Phantoms a 2-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Wachovia Spectrum on Friday night in the final regular-season meeting between the two teams. With the win, the Phantoms pulled within seven points of Binghamton for the final playoff spot in the East Division after the Senators lost to the Norfolk Admirals 4-2

Like Wednesday night, the Penguins struck first. Like Wednesday night, it was Janne Pesonen doing the striking. He picked up his eighth point and fourth goal of a three-game span against the Phantoms when he put one home on the power play from the right circle with just over 50 seconds remaining in the first period, giving the Pens a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period that ended with a flurry of penalties, the Phantoms found themselves with a lengthy 5-on-3 to start the third. They capitalized 55 seconds into the period when Jared Ross took a feed in the right circle and blasted it past Penguins goaltender John Curry.

In the game's final minute, the Phantoms controlled a draw in their own end and Boyd Kane subsequently carried the puck up the left wing, with Kalinski coming along for the rush on the right side. As Kane entered the zone, Lasse Kukkonen caught up with the play to create a 3-on-2. Kane found Kukkonen in the high slot, who in turn fed Kalinski in the right circle. The rookie's one-timer beat Curry to give the Phantoms the win.

Scott Munroe earned the game's second star with 31 saves on 32 shots faced, while Curry stopped 24 of 26 in the loss.

The game was the 102nd and final regular season meeting between the Penguins and the Philadelphia Phantoms. The Phantoms have played the Penguins more time in their history than any other team except Hershey, despite existing for three more years than the Penguins have. Philadelphia finishes the all-time regular season series with a record of 52-43-2-2 along with three ties.

Now seven points back of Binghamton, the Phantoms will entertain the Senators in a gigantic game on Saturday night at 7:05. There are now just seven regular season games remaining at the Wachovia Spectrum. Comcast-Spectacor and the Phantoms are now offering an amazing $10 adult ticket price for all remaining home games for the Phantoms final season at the Wachovia Spectrum, while all tickets for kids 14 and under are now $5. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at Phantomshockey.com, or via ComcastTIX at 1-800-298-4200.
