Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- The Belleville Senators rolled past the Syracuse Crunch, 7-3, tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
After giving up the first goal, the Crunch potted two to go on top, but the Senators responded with a five-goal run to build a demanding lead on their way to victory. The loss moves Syracuse to 15-12-2-0 on the season and 1-1-0-0 in the four-game season series against Belleville.
Crunch netminder Spencer Martin turned aside 20-of-26 shots, while Joey Daccord stopped 22-of-25 in net for the Senators. Syracuse converted on 2-of-5 power plays and went a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Belleville was first on the board 2:45 into the game. Joseph LaBate dug the puck out from the end boards for Parker Kelly to fake a shot before flipping to his backhand to net the opening tally. Cole Cassels recorded the secondary helper.
The Crunch tied the game with a shorthanded goal 1:19 into the second period. Chris Mueller and Alex Volkov came in on a 2-on-1 rush. Volkov held Mueller's feed and centered it for Dominik Masin to send into an open net as he followed behind the play. At 12:22, Syracuse went on top when Mueller cleaned up the rebound of Cory Conacher's left wing shot while on the power play. Cameron Gaunce earned a point on the goal.
Belleville was quick to respond and knotted the game just 1:10 later. Martin made the save on Drake Batherson's shot, but the rebound dropped down for Vitaly Abramov to chip in.
The Senators regained their lead 2:21 into the third period when LaBate capitalized on a loose puck in the slot with the help of Cassels and Kelly. They added another at the seven-minute mark to make it 4-2. Rudolfs Balcers cut towards the net and dropped a pass back for Jordan Szwarz to score from between the circles.
At 10:29, Josh Norris tipped in Frank Corrado's right point shot. Filip Chlapik then hit the shorthanded empty-netter.
Syracuse stopped the onslaught with a power-play goal at 17:42. Cal Foote fired home a one-timer from the high slot off a feed from Volkov. Boris Katchouk earned the secondary helper.
Belleville put up a final goal with 1:38 remaining in the game when Kelly redirected a long point shot from Corrado for his second of the night.
The Crunch host the Binghamton Devils tomorrow at 7 p.m.
