Worcester Red Sox News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Worcester Red Sox (9-5) dropped two straight versus a team for the first time this season, swept in a doubleheader by the Syracuse Mets (3-10) at NBT Bank Stadium on Wednesday. The team fell 1-0 in extra-innings in the first game and lost 4-2 in game two.

In game one, the WooSox received their longest outing of the season from a starting pitcher in the extra-inning defeat. Connor Seabold went six scoreless innings on a cold Central New York afternoon, striking out five and allowing four hits. The right-hander has now thrown 13 straight scoreless innings, a stretch that began on April 7 at Jacksonville.

Kaleb Ort added a scoreless seventh in the seven-inning game, but Worcester was held without a run in their offensive eighth. Syracuse began the bottom of the eighth with an automatic runner, Quinn Brodey, on second base. After a bunt and error pushed him to third, Travis Blankenhorn delivered a walk-off sac-fly to score Brodey.

Offensively, the WooSox notched two total hits, a pair of singles from Duran out of the leadoff spot. The 25-year-old also became the first Worcester player to steal two bases in a game this season, despite the loss.

After being held without a run in eight offensive innings during game one, Worcester wasted no time, jumping out to an early lead in game two. The WooSox loaded the bases with one out in the first for Ryan Fitzgerald, who went down 0-2, then lifted the third pitch he saw to right field. The fly ball was deep enough to score Jarren Duran from third, and after a pair of throws-one to the plate and then one back to second base-Jeter Downs rounded third and sprinted home to score the second run of the play.

Still a 2-0 game in the third, the Mets put two on with two out on a pair of hits against Worcester starter Brian Keller. Daniel Palka came up next, and he smashed the second pitch he saw deep to right for a go-ahead, three-run home run. The long ball was the first of the season allowed by Keller, who exited after three innings and took the loss.

After two scoreless frames by Silvino Bracho out of the bullpen, Durbin Feltman entered in the sixth and allowed an RBI double from Syracuse's Nick Meyer in the sixth. Worcester was held without a run over the final five offensive innings of the day to seal the team's first three-game losing streak of the 2022 season.

The WooSox continue the six-game series Thursday on the road against the Syracuse Mets. On the mound, Kyle Hart, who is off to a 3-0 start in 2022, faces Jose Rodriguez. Radio coverage is live at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network.
