Charlotte Knights News Release
(NASHVILLE, TN) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds by a score of 7-0 on Tuesday night from First Horizon Park in Nashville, TN. Tuesday's loss snapped Charlotte's two-game winning streak.
The Sounds used two big innings to get past the Knights in Tuesday's series opener. Nashville scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and then added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Knights. Charlotte RHP Emilio Vargas (0-2, 10.03) started for the Knights and was charged with four runs (all earned) on five hits over just 2.2 innings pitched. He was saddled with his second loss of the season.
North Carolina native Tyler White had a big day at the plate for the Sounds. White, a product of Western Carolina, went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. He finished just a home run shy of the cycle. His two-run double in the third inning got the scoring started in the game for Nashville. Later in that inning, catcher Alex Jackson drove White home with a two-run home run.
The Sounds added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to an RBI triple from White and a two-run home run from first baseman Jon Singleton.
For the Knights, left fielder Blake Rutherford had three of the team's five hits on the night. Rutherford went 3-for-4 with a double.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Nashville Sounds on Wednesday night with first pitch on tap for 7:35 p.m. ET. All games in the series will air live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
