Toledo Mud Hens News Release
After a short 17-minute rain delay, the Toledo Mud Hens were hoping to snag their first back-to-back wins of the season, as they took on the St. Paul Saints, for the second game of the series. Coming off an impressive starting performance during his last outing in Iowa, Chase Anderson took the mound once again for the Mud Hens. Making his third start of the season, Anderson was still looking for his first winning decision of the year. For the Toledo batters, they hoped to stay hot after tallying ten runs on the Saints in last night's game.
Similar to most starts this year, the Mud Hens struck first. In the bottom of the second inning, Josh Lester would hit a solo shot to deep right-center field. This gave Toledo a 1-0 lead to start the game. In the next inning, the Saints struck back with four runs. Two of those runs came from a wild pitch and a throwing error by Toledo, following an RBI single.
Both teams would go scoreless in their next three innings of offense. However, heading into the sixth inning, the Mud Hens tallied two runs. Kody Clemens would hit his third double of the season to deep right-center field, scoring Zack Short. Then, trailing 4-2, Josh Lester hit an RBI ground ball to score Clemens. The Mud Hens now trailed 4-3, hoping to complete a comeback. In the bottom of the ninth, the Mud Hens got their leadoff man to second base, on a throwing error by St. Paul. However, the Mud Hens would fail to capitalize, as they fell short by one run.
Despite the loss, Josh Lester extended his five-game hitting streak with 2 RBIs in the game. Lester finished tonight's game, going 1-4, with a home run. The hard hitting first baseman is looking to extend his hitting streak, as the season goes on. Along with Lester's two RBI game, the Toledo bullpen went solid in 3.4 innings of work. The three pitchers (Ricardo Pinto, Miguel Del Pozo, and Drew Carlton) had a combined total of four strikeouts, giving up no runs, and only allowing two walks. "They were outstanding, and they gave us several opportunities tonight..." General Manager Floyd McClendon said.
The Mud Hens will be back tomorrow at Fifth-Third Field, as they will take on the Saint Paul Saints for the third game of the series. The first pitch is set to be at 6:35pm.
