Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY- Davis Schneider's three-RBI night, including a home run, helped the Buffalo Bisons defeat the Toledo Mud Hens 8-5 Friday night at Sahlen Field.
Following a scoreless first inning, Addison Barger got things rolling for the Herd in the second with a solo homer. His third home run of the season would just have enough to clear the right field wall, giving the Bisons an early 1-0 lead.
The bats wouldn't stop there for Buffalo, as Cameron Eden doubled to left field in the bottom of the third inning. Later, Eden would steal third, his 37th stolen base of the season, putting a runner in scoring position. The Herd would capitalize on the opportunity, thanks to a Spencer Horwitz sacrifice fly to left field, advancing Eden home and upping the Bisons lead, 2-0.
It didn't take long for Toledo to strike back however, as Tyler Nevin's solo shot to center field would minimize Buffalo's lead to 2-1 in the fourth.
In the bottom of the inning the Bisons used another sacrifice fly to extend the lead back to two runs, to 3-1. Jordan Luplow cashed in Schneider for his 29th RBI of the season. Later in the frame, Eden's sacrifice fly to right would then allow Barger to score, making it 4-1.
The Mud Hens second home run of the night would quickly narrow the lead down to 4-2, thanks to Johan Camargo's blast to right center in the top of the fifth.
Schneider's home run hot streak continued on, as his 17th on the season would score both Ernie Clement and Spencer Horwitz, upping the Herd's lead to 7-2.
Pitcher Zach Thompson had yet another solid evening for Buffalo. In five innings pitched, Thompson threw five strikeouts, while only allowing two runs in the process, proving to be a pivotal part in helping the Bisons maintain their lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Eden's second hit of the night would drive home Tyler Heineman, furthering the Bisons lead, 8-2.
Despite the lead, Toledo would not go down without a battle. In the top of the eighth with bases loaded, Joe Rizzo walked, advancing Justyn-Henry Malloy, cutting the lead down to 8-3. In the same situation, the very next batter, Donny Sands also walked, sending Colt Keith to score and minimizing the Bisons lead to 8-4.
Later in the inning, Johan Camargo grounded out to short, nevertheless Nevin was able to score, bringing the Mud Hens within three, 8-5.
In spite of a late game rally by Toledo, the Bisons would hang on to defeat the Mudhens 8-5.
Buffalo and Toledo will continue Saturday at 6:05 p.m. for game two of a short three-game series, with Hyun-Jin Ryu set to take the mound for the Herd on a rehab assignment.
